My husband and I are fans of traveling light. We have, over the years, perfected the art of traveling with carry-on only. Plus, with our jobs that involve travel at least once a month, we’ve gotten really good at packing only what’s absolutely necessary. I confess that I am usually pretty smug coasting through the terminal with either just a backpack on my back, or wheeling a small suitcase.
Baby sort of ruined everything. Our first trip to visit baby’s grandpa involved a baby crib, a stroller, a car seat, a small bag filled with diapers and a bag for our clothing. We looked like we were immigrating. Fast forward to our fourth plane ride with baby and I think we got it down to a minimalist-approved process. For our last trip to NYC, we had our umbrella stroller neatly folded, I wore her in an Ergo carrier, and we each had a knapsack on our backs. Mine was filled with diapers, toys and baby clothing, and my husband’s was filled with our clothing and toiletries. I had both hands free and he had one hand free (carrying the folded up stroller with the other). I think this worked well for us and probably likely something we will do in the future. Honestly, babies need so little. We could’ve done without the stroller but we have a heavy baby and it was nice to put her down in her stroller for quick naps and while we ate.
